We have a fantastic opportunity for a Head of Internal Communications! As Head of Internal Communications, you will be a strategic advisor to our senior leadership team- working with them and the wider communications function to develop and deliver an internal communications strategy. Internal communications at Direct Line Group is really unique – given our different types of businesses and brands, but the communications strategy is the same: to provide all employees with regular, meaningful, and consistent information about activity across the business.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll need to think strategically and execute collaboratively at pace, across a company going through lots of change as we welcome and help embed several new Executive Committee members to the business in 2024.

What you’ll be doing:
As a key member of the Corporate Affairs Leadership team, you will actively contribute to shaping and delivering the overall Communications strategy. You will be responsible for developing and driving the overall DLG internal communications vision and strategy, leading change management communications, and messaging, reviewing channels and approach, whilst leading and managing an internal communications team.

  • Develop 3-year strategic internal communications and engagement plan, delivering communications tailored to different internal audiences in such a way that the message can be communicated effectively and relevantly that deepens employee engagement!
  • Manage relationships with key internal stakeholders to identify and maximise communications opportunities and work closely with the wider Corporate Affairs team to provide an aligned approach.
  • Provide leadership to not just the internal communications team – but the wider Corporate Affairs team – driving high performance, consistency, and development
  • Measure the effectiveness of internal communications to assess whether they are meeting DLG's requirements and review whether channels are optimised effectively  
  • Develop diverse communication channels for staff communications to encourage engagement across DLG and further support building a positive and inclusive organisational culture.
  • Be responsible for the internal crisis communications plan and work alongside internal stakeholders to execute the plan.
  • Work with senior management to provide advice on internal communications to support strategic priorities.
  • Establish and maintain metrics for measurement of internal communications activities and ensure communication channels are operating effectively.
  • Monitor and report on efficiency of all internal communications activities to ensure value for money and achievement against plan.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience leading internal communications functions, ideally within financial services  
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and delivering effective internal communications strategies to diverse employee audiences
  • Crisis and change management experience
  • Up-to-date with the latest internal communications trends
  • Ability to advise, influence and support senior leadership teams and work effectively across a matrix organization.
  • Ability to translate complex business requirements into effective communication narratives/programmes.
  • Proven track record with developing and building highly collaborative and effective teams
