As I sit down to write this blog I am struck by two thoughts. How is it April already?! More importantly why has it just snowed?! The first quarter of this year has flown by and yet the weather is still just as bad as in December! As a consequence I haven’t been able to get out on my bike as much as I would have liked. I’m a fair way off Olympic Gold standard at the moment! As a result of the never ending winter I have recently booked a 2 week holiday to go to Thailand in June. I can’t wait for some sunshine and a deserved break after a busy and testing start to the year.
After a positive 2012 review which led to some financial rewards I have turned my attention to 2013 which has so far been a fast paced but enjoyable 3 months. My project has been moving forward rapidly and we have faced some real challenges to ensure we deliver on time. There have been some moments where success looked impossible but in the end we are only a few weeks away from implementation having achieved what we set out to do.
I have enjoyed having more responsibility, working directly with other projects and engaging with senior stakeholders on a regular basis. I am always striving to drive my project forward and achieve the best outcomes for all those involved.
Having been at DLG for 18 months and with my progress so far being encouraging and drawing positive feedback I have reached the point where I am keen to move up a level. I am perusing this for 3 reasons: Firstly, as recognition for the good job that I have done to date. Secondly, I am not someone who wants to remain static for too long. Finally, albeit not my main driver there will hopefully be some positive financial implications of a promotion. At this time I am seeking guidance on the best route to make this happen from senior managers within my team. Hopefully by the next time I write this will have moved forward.
Unfortunately due to a full schedule I have been unable to progress my CII exam to date. However I am keen to do this and once things calm down a little bit I will be picking up my study material and booking my exam.
With one quarter down I am looking forward to what the rest of the year holds. Hopefully more success at work and also a change in the temperature!
