Covering letter tips

Your CV should tell us all we need to know about the details and dates of your work history, education and experience. Your covering letter should tell us a little more about you and why you want to join our team.

A supporting document, it accompanies your CV and can make all the difference to that vital first impression. When writing your covering letter, there are a few things to bear in mind:
  • Try to tailor your covering letter to each role you apply for – this isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ document
  • Covering letters are usually no more than one page in length
  • Use the same font as your CV
  • Write in the first person, i.e. “I am writing to…”
  • Keep sentences short and simple
  • Address and sign your letter accordingly
  • Make sure that it has a concise introduction and a strong, clear ending
  • Focus on your specific experience and why you fit the job description
