The role

What we're looking for:

We are looking for Data Reliability Engineers (DREs) who are passionate about working with SAS and ETL technologies!  You will have strong experience of developing, executing and troubleshooting ETL workflows in a production environment using SAS DI Studio, SAS Enterprise Guide and SAS Platform Computing.

In Direct line Group (DLG), DREs combine software and data engineering disciplines to build and run large-scale, fault-tolerant systems so that users' overall happiness with service, performance and data integrity is optimised.

Who you'll be working with:

You’ll be working in the Engineering Chapter within the Technology function. We’re passionate about supporting the development of your technical and leadership skills.

What you'll be doing:

  • A subject matter expert in SAS technologies: SAS Base and Advanced Programming, SAS DI Studio, SAS Enterprise guide, SAS Platform Computing

  • Managing commercial and risk applications that have been built on SAS and Java technologies

  • Working with Oracle and SQL Server technologies

  • Optimising service availability and reliability through performance tuning and the implementation of best practices

  • Delivering solutions in accordance with agreed organizational standards that ensure services are resilient, scalable and future proof

  • Designing, building and testing data related products and services based on feeds from multiple systems using a range of different storage technologies and/or access methods

  • Creating repeatable and reusable products and services

  • Understanding the concepts and principles of data modelling and able to produce, maintain and update relevant data models for commercial business needs

  • Implementing and iteratively improving SDLC and CI/CD technologies. Providing engineering level on call support, solving real world problems, conducting blameless post-mortems, then crafting and implementing technical solutions to mitigate reoccurrence

  • Building and maintaining operational runbooks, streamlining procedures and ETL jobs, and automating routine tasks

  • Building, owning and running observability, dashboards, monitoring tooling such as AppDynamics and PagerDuty

If you’re successful, you’ll be working from home the majority of the time and we’ll work with you to make sure you’re set up with everything you need.
