A bit about the role:

You will be working in close conjunction with a very capable team of data engineers, software engineers,DevOpss engineers and scientists on a groundbreaking new product due to launch in April 2019.

What being a Senior Data Engineer entails:

You will play a key role in developing and maintaining a robust cloud based solution fit for low-latency, highly-available, scoring of machine learning solutions within AWS.

What your day will look like:

  • You will contribute to a small team of highly talented software / data engineers
  • Contributing to application architecture - design and build
  • Implementing trustworthy and efficient data transformations via ETL and ELT
  • Building & improving software and services through continuous integration pipelines
  • Working closely with DevOps engineer(s) to agree on and apply best practices
  • Staying on top of AWS offerings and taking advantage of new services if applicable
  • Evangelising usage of the cloud for scalable and robust solutions

What we're looking for:

We want someone who takes pride in developing highly available, secure and robust systems. In order to contribute to our quickly-evolving, fail-fast agile environment, you should ideally have:

  • Significant experience of data transformation via ETL and / or ELT
  • Significant years of experience with SQL – e.g. Postgres, MySQL, Redshift
  • Experience and understadddnding of different database technologies, their use cases and trade-offs e.g. SQL, NoSQL, etc.
  • Unix / Linux experience
  • Significant experience with Python
  • Experience with the Java/ Spring Framework / Spring Boot
  • Strong understanding of functional programming
  • Understanding of agile processes and incremental delivery, translating high level ideas to stories
  • Passionate about Software Craftsmanship and Clean Code
  • Passionate about Test Driven Development
  • Understanding and experience of CI and CD
  • Excellent communication skills

You don't need to have the following but it would be highly advantageous:

  • Experience with AWS – EC2, ECS, S3, ELB, ALB, KMS, Lambda, Kinesis, etc.
  • Understanding of DevOps, Infrastructure as Code. Practical experience beneficial
  • Experience developing highly concurrent, distributed enterprise applications
  • Experience in Asynchronous Reactive programming models
  • Experience with and understanding of messaging technologies, their use cases and trade-offs – e.g. Kafka, AMQP
