Churchill Court, BR1 1DP
Fixed Term Contract (Fixed Term)
Full time

At Direct Line Group, we’re shaping the future. With a mission to make insurance easier and better value for our customers, we embrace change in all its richness and variety. It’s not just what we do; it’s how we do it. We bring our whole selves to work every day and embrace fresh thinking – after all, Britain is constantly changing and to protect the nation, we adapt with it.

Across our diverse brands – including Direct Line, Churchill, Privilege and Green Flag – change takes many forms. We appreciate the knowledge and skills that each one of us brings to the business. It’s hard not to be inspired by the things that make us unique. Boldness, curiosity and enthusiasm go a long way. And they’re helping us transform the industry we lead.

As part of this journey, we have an exciting opportunity for a 12 month paid placement year internship within our Brand Media Public Relations Team based out of our Bromley office. If successful, we'd be looking for you to start in July if possible, please note interviews will take place in April.! We ask that the student has already completed two years of their course, this role may be suitable for a student looking to gain experience before returning back to university to complete their last year at University.

The Role:

As a PR intern, you will be supporting the delivery of excellent reactive and proactive media relations service on behalf of our brands. In the past year, the Brand Media Relations team has been named:

  • PRCA’s in-house team of the year, best use of media relations and PR Professional of the Year
  • HeadlineMoney’s PR Professional of the Year
  • CorpComm’s best communication by a private sector organisation
  • And PR Week’s best Issues and Crisis Management

You will work closely with the PR Managers and our Head of News to undertake operationally essential tasks to ensure media analysis and reporting is up-to-date and develop and manage relationships with key target media where relevant. Other responsibilities will include:

  • Responding to and assisting with ad hoc media enquiries in a timely manner
  • Organising and analysing market research
  • Developing, building, and handling relevant collateral and content to support media campaigns and press releases
  • Agency and supplier interaction, as necessary
  • Analysing the results and feedback of marketing campaigns
  • Delivering of campaigns that engage across traditional and social media channels
  • Supporting a team that work to collectively achieve external accolades (awards wins or shortlisting)

Quote from Previous Intern:

"Based at the company's headquarters in Bromley, South London, I have been working closely with the PR team writing press releases, taking ownership on some big campaigns, frequently meeting, speaking and liaising with journalists, working on ad hoc media enquires and regularly attending industry events. I have been lucky enough to spend time with the agencies we work with, gaining valuable insight to the industry. I have worked alongside various partners at all different levels in the organisation, building a substantial portfolio to take back to university in the process.

Working for one of the biggest insurance companies in the UK has been demanding, dynamic but deeply rewarding. Many say working for a small company in a small-time provides a more intimate and beneficial placement experience. However, I truly believe this is one of the best placement opportunities available for any student wanting to pursue a career in PR. An eye-opening experience that I will never forget.”

Key Skills

  • Must be enrolled at university – completing an undergraduate degree that requires (or has an option for) a year’s industrial placement

  • Deep understanding of basic PR/communications processes, tools and methods
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
