Who you’ll be working with:

Application Development & Maintenance (AD&M) is part of the wider Technology Services (TS) team, responsible for all infrastructure across the DLG business. The Application Development and Maintenance team is the engineering heart of Technology Services at Direct Line Group.

We build and run reliable technology solutions using a range of approaches from bespoke build through commercial packaged software to hybrid models using SAAS. As an AD&M Software Engineer, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver innovative products that will lead and disrupt the insurance market, delivering excellence and continuous service improvement.

What you’ll be doing:

This is an excellent opportunity for a Software Engineer to join Direct Line Group, a market leading insurer based in Bromley. We are just 20 mins to Central London.

  • You will own the design, development and test of software solutions across a range of technologies
  • Take the lead and influence business and technical stakeholders to continually improve our products, solutions, tools and processes whilst driving up quality and reducing costs.
  • Work across multiple software engineering platforms, frameworks and tools to deliver creative solutions. Continually look to expand knowledge in new technology areas.
  • Apply agile software delivery practices, such as test-driven development, continuous integration/delivery, pair programming etc.
  • Work across disciplines (e.g. testing, business analysis, solution design, DevOps) and develop skills outside your core specialism
  • Using your interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills to bridge between the silos and bring different teams together to work towards a common goal

Required Skills

  • Previous software engineering experience, with deep technical end to end knowledge from design through to delivery utilising agile methodologies
  • Having worked as a developer, you will have strong and broad technology skills, as well as be an SME in a core language such as Java
  • Development Operations experience
  • Communication and interpersonal skills

Essential Skills

  • Strong skills in technology security and risk management
  • Strong collaboration and ability to work in a complex technology and culturally diverse
