We are now recruiting for a Risk Control Surveyor to join our Commercial Business.

The role is home based and will work closely with our Manchester and Birmingham offices on a full time, permanent basis.

What being a Risk Control Surveyor involves:

To undertake physical risk assessment surveys at client and prospective customer premises to aid underwriters understanding of the risk, highlighting existing risk deficiencies and suggesting suitable risk improvement strategies to directly support commercial underwriting strategies for profitable business growth and retention.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Delivery of a range of client and prospect survey reports (Pre Cover, New Business, Sprinkler and Post Loss).
  • Awareness of NIG national and regional underwriting strategy.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with all Risk Control Team (RCT) stakeholders   (NIG Underwriters & Survey Support, Brokers and Policyholders).
  • Promoting risk management understanding and awareness to all RCT stakeholders (NIG Underwriters, Survey Support, Brokers and Policyholders).
  • Delivery of all RCT services in line with existing Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P) and NIG audit requirements.
  • Personal and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in order to maximise personal contribution to the job.
  • Reinforce the culture and core values of Direct Line group through appropriate behaviours and actions.

Skills & qualities you’ll need: 

  • Customer facing and presentation.
  • Time management and organisation.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel.
  • Understanding of a wide range of industry processes and the risks associated with those, particularly in respect of fire, extended perils (flood, windstorm etc), business interruption and security.
  • Knowledge of liability risks and an understanding of current UK Health and Safety legislation.
  • Sound understanding of commercial insurance underwriting process and procedure.   

Experience / Qualifications:

Candidates with good experience in a similar role will be well placed for success in this role.

Insurance, Fire, Health and Safety, Risk Management or Engineering qualifications would also be useful (e.g. CII, IFireE, NEBOSH, IOSH,  IRM. IChemE etc.)

Working hours: 35 hour per week Monday to Friday
