Job Description

Working for our NIG brand we now have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Claims Handler to join our Property & Liability team.  This is a full time, 12 month FTC/secondment opportunity - based at our office in Bromley.

The role:

Excellent claims handling is essential to our success.  Working in a team of 9 Claims Handlers,  you will play a key part of ensuring that our commercial customers have an efficient and fair experience and really deliver on our promise.

As a Commercial Claims Handler you will have end to end ownership and accountability for a claim. Responsible for the validation, investigation, negotiation and fulfilment of commercial claims, you will proactively resolve outstanding investigations, in order to choose the optimum settlement route, optimising revenue generation and/or cost control opportunities. 

What being a Commercial Claims Handler involves:

  • End to end claims handling of retained claims
  • Identify and manage potential fraudulent claims
  • Investigate, negotiate indemnity and liability & identify potential recovery opportunities
  • All litigated cases requiring legal intervention, utilising in house and panel lawyers
  • Identify, own and manage the risks involved in running our business appropriate to my role, in line with the Direct Line Group risk framework'
  • Robust control of Indemnity Spend / Reserving through effective negotiation
  • Manage Customer and Third Party expectations throughout the life-cycle of the claim
  • Maximise revenue generation/ cost control / recovery opportunities to negotiate the optimum claim settlement
  • Adhere to regulatory timescales and guidelines
  • Technical mentor / referral point to enhance capability development
  • Keeping the customer experience at the heart of everything we do, ensuring adherence at all times to the principles of Treating the Customer Fairly

Skills & Qualities required:

  • Previous claims handling experience is essential - including: Initiation and investigation, negotiation and settlement, claims quantum and assessment
  • Knowledge of Fraud and Investigation
  • Aware of Insurance Principles & Practice
  • Excellent customer service and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines and agreed SLA's

Hours: 35 hours per week
