Direct Line Group is one of the UK's largest insurance companies and home to some of the best-known brands including Direct Line, Churchill and Green Flag.

What we're looking for:

We are looking for Software Engineers (SEs) who are passionate about Guidewire and working with cloud related technologies on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Our Guidewire-focused SEs combine software and systems engineering disciplines to build and run large-scale, fault-tolerant systems so that users' overall happiness with features, service, and performance is optimised.

We promote a culture of technical diversity, ownership, curiosity, learning, integrity and transparency.

We bring together people with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives and encourage them to collaborate, try new things in a blame-free environment and work together in an agile manner, in efforts to improve our customer experience.

We welcome engineers with different levels of experience.

Who you'll be working with:

You will report to the Engineering Chapter. You'll work with like-minded engineers and leaders who are passionate about supporting the development of your technical and leadership skills within our Engineering Chapter here in DLG.

What you'll be doing:

  • Manage Guidewire platforms that support our GOSU/Java based commercial and risk applications that have been built on AWS
  • Code in GOSU, SQL and Java and peer reviewing pull requests
  • Design, and iteratively improving SDLC and CI/CD technologies
  • Provide engineering level on call support, solving real-world problems, conducting Blameless Post-mortems, then creating and implementing technical solutions to avoid recurrence
  • Build operational runbooks, streamlining procedures, and automating routine tasks
  • Research new technologies and architectural patterns by conducting technical Proof of Concepts (PoC) and propose improvements to existing platforms and migration from legacy systems
  • Design, building, and running observability, dashboards and monitoring tooling such as AppDynamics, AWS CloudWatch and PagerDuty
  • Develop Guidewire engineering standards
  • Work with other subject areas including, functional and non-functional testing, security, and operations, to develop and operate secure solutions
  • Contribute to the product roadmap
  • Mentor and support the career development of SEs in our engineering chapter
  • Work in an Agile and regulated environment
