What we are looking for:

We have phenomenal opportunity for experienced Risk Control Surveyors to join our growing team on a permanent basis! We have 3 positions to cover, the North West, the Midlands & the North East (including Newcastle, Sunderland, Durham)

What you'll do:

You will undertake physical risk surveys at client and prospect premises which aid underwriters understanding of the risk, highlights existing risk deficiencies and suggests suitable risk improvements strategies to directly support NIG's underwriting strategies for profitable business growth/retention. This will include:

  • Deliver a range of client and prospect survey reports (Pre Cover, New Business, Sprinkler and Post Loss).

  • Awareness of NIG national and regional underwriting strategy.

  • Develop relationships with all Risk Control Team (RCT) partners (NIG Underwriters & Survey Support, Brokers and Policyholders).

  • Deliver all RCT services following existing Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P) and NIG audit requirements.

  • Promote the culture and core values of Direct Line group through appropriate behaviours and actions.

What we are looking for:

You will survey fire, theft and liability risks, including identifying and appraising hazards and defects from the processes and procedures involved and able to eliminate or minimise the DLG exposure to these risks by appropriate risk improvement measures.

You will also Demonstrate risk perception and understand the nature of the risk (good or bad), including knowledge of:-

  • Fire e.g. causes of fire, building construction, fire load, arson, process hazards and heating systems

  • The key factors influencing Business Interruption

  • Physical security, safes and intruder alarms

  • Current Health & Safety legislation and knowledge of Employers Liability, Public and Product Liability risk exposures.

  • General understanding of commercial insurance underwriting process and procedure.

Who you'll work with:

You will be part of a team of Risk Control Surveyors who are based across the UK, supporting & working closely with our Underwriting regions. You will have regular contact with the wider RCT including the Survey Support Team who arranges appointments, issue Risk Improvements, and support the time of the surveyors. Also, you will be involved with our Apprentices who are on our Higher Apprentice Programme where we are "growing our own surveyors"
