Our customers and shareholders rely on DLG managing its risk. We are looking for a Capital Modelling Lead, who will support this through the assessment and quantification of risk, including capital requirements. Reporting into our Head of Economic Capital, you will lead elements of the calibration and applications of the internal economic capital model (‘IECM’) within DLG.

You'll provide thought leadership on actuarial and business issues, and will lead and participate in the successful planning, implementation and delivery of large, strategic projects.

You'll need to take ownership of specific relationships up to ExCo/Audit Committee level, understanding expectations and communicating Corporate Actuarial’s view effectively; present results, and explain drivers and the wider commercial context. We need someone who can understand and improve key areas of capital modelling applications within our business and adapt to changing circumstances and ensure team members are aligned on outcomes.

What else you'll be doing:

  • Enable executive decisions based on a clear understanding of the impacts on IECM capital requirements, now and in the future, with recommendations for improving the Group’s risk and capital position.

  • Lead, plan, and deliver analysis connected to our applications of the IECM (e.g. reinsurance purchases, investment asset strategy, allocation of capital and ranking of risks, risk appetite measures, forecasting of capital requirements beyond the IECM time horizon).

  • Improve on current, and create future applications of the IECM that meet the needs of our stakeholders.

  • Lead the business-as-usual operation and the development of select IECM components. This includes provision of output; model updates; data quality; expert judgements; deliver stakeholder signoff; technical documentation; and primary validation.

  • Be aware of and direct the team in complying on an ongoing basis with the requirements of relevant professional/legal/regulatory/risk management frameworks, e.g. Technical Actuarial Standards, Solvency II, IFRS 17 and UK GAAP requirements.

  • High performance culture: You'll contribute to the creation of a high performing Corporate Actuarial & Finance function through development of team members, empowering them to demonstrate their skills, and support them in the process.

  • Risk & Controls: You'll need a deep understanding of the principles of risk management and be able to apply this to manage controls and audit trails, responding positively to challenge by Risk and Audit, clearly articulating Corporate Actuarial’s position.

What we're looking for:

  • We are looking for a qualified Actuary with experience in the UK insurance market. You'll have a deep knowledge of Capital Modelling and Solvency II, and understand insurance accounting principles, especially IFRS17.

  • You'll have experience managing senior stakeholders, and will be able to collaborate effectively, demonstrating project management skills, while being able to coach and manage a team.

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and Tyche is preferred.
